The Book

After 4 years of research and writing, Norma’s book “Raasay: the Island and its People” was published by Birlinn in 2002.

Tracing the history of Raasay from the medieval period into the 20th century, this book is the first detailed history of one of the most varied and beautiful of all Hebridean islands.

The book challenges many of the long-held assumptions about the early history of Raasay and is acclaimed as being a major contribution to the current literature on the Scottish islands. It is a fascinating insight and is a ‘must read’ for any family that can trace roots back to the area.

“Raasay: the Island and its People” is now out of print but may be available from your local library or by inter-library loan.
